Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a modality that focuses on how the mind affects the body. It offers great tools for working with emotional issues in more depth, as it looks at discovering how you are programming your own Nervous System through the use of your language.
NLP was founded by John Grinder, a linguist, and Richard Bandler, a computer programmer. They were fascinated to discover the strategies used by geniuses and very talented musicians to achieve their high level of mastery. Often very successful people are not aware of the strategies they use, so John and Richard modeled the way these people performed their skills and broke them down into little steps that can be learned by anyone.
They discovered that most people have habitual thought patterns, but they don’t realize that it is affecting their body, e.g. if you continually say: “That person gives me a headache..”, or “I am sick and tired of this”, you are giving orders to your Nervous System to create these states as physical conditions.
The subconscious mind is very literal and does not recognize the word “not”. Have you ever noticed what happens if you say: “Don’t spill the milk”, or “don’t forget to pick up some bread on the way home”. What do you do if I say: “Don’t think of an elephant?”
NLP also offers many successful techniques to change the way you programmed your Nervous System and to improve your efficiency at work by learning more successful strategies of time management, planning, and relating to people at work and at home.
