DNA testing
Most chronic diseases do not have a clear connection with one gene, compared to for example Down syndrome. Instead, there are often several genes that can be linked to the development and progression of a chronic disease.
These genes tend to be more related to our metabolism. There are genes that are related to digestion, detoxification, inflammation, the production of energy, anti-oxidants, hormones and neurotransmitters, your stress response, risk of getting injuries, sensitivity to certain drugs, your susceptibility to developing Alzheimer’s disease at an early age.
Recently these genes have been identified and can now be tested through a simple DIY home test kit.
Why would I want to find about my genes?
- DNA testing can shed some valuable light on the possible cause(s) of Autism, neuro-developmental, neuro-degenerative, auto-immune and other chronic conditions.
- It can help you understand how best to interfere with the progression of these chronic diseases and conditions.
What DNA tests can I do?
The main test is DNA Health. Recently they made it possible to order a panel of up to 12 DNA tests using the same sample. You can choose any number from the following list:
- DNA Active
- DNA Diet
- DNA GrowBaby
- DNA Health
- DNA Mind
- DNA Oestrogen
- DNA Resilience
- DNA Risk
- DNA Skin
- DNA Smile
- DNA Sport
- MedCheck
The DNA tests are done through a simple Dried Blood Spot (DBS) test. You can do it yourself or your practitioner can do it for you. The more DNA tests you order, the cheaper the price per test. You can read more about each test by clicking on the following link: http://www.nordiclabs.com/EProduct.aspx?id=173.
How can I order these DNA tests?
You can order these DNA tests from the following website: https://rnlabs.com.au/pathology-request-form/?pathology. Please enter ANK for the practitioner’s name and select the tests you want to do, upon which your test kit will be sent to your home. The lab will send your test results to me and we will discuss the results at your next appointment.
If you are not sure which tests to order, you can discuss this with me first during the free introductory consultation. We can then order it together on the above website. This way you can do the tests before your first appointment.
What can I do with the results of these DNA tests?
These DNA tests can show you what your potential genetic metabolic weaknesses are. These weaknesses can contribute towards the development or progression of a chronic disease. Fortunately, only about 35% of the outcome of any disease is determined by your DNA. The other 65% is determined by what you do with it, i.e. diet, lifestyle, stress management as well as your exposure to toxins and your ability to remove these toxins from your body.
How can I get more information about how my body is functioning?
Functional Pathology testing can provide an insight into how well your body is functioning as a net result of your genes, environment, diet, lifestyle choices as well as your ability to deal with stress and toxic exposures.
You can also assess the nature and amount of toxins that are present in your body due to exposure from your environment or produced by your own body, especially the gut. Toxins can cause inflammation and immune reactions in every part of your body.
Once you know the results of these tests, you have a baseline of how your body is functioning at the moment and what kind of toxins your body has been exposed to.
What can I do to remove these stressors?
The RAD programme and the RAPID gut repair programme can assist in removing toxins and other stressors from your body. Nutritional supplements can help to improve your metabolism and we can determine the best diet and lifestyle for your genes, your age, your gut and your general state of health.
